Vipal Launches New Version of DV-RT4 Tread
R 22.5 and 425/65 R 22.5. Available in the K_tech and K_plus versions. Last but not least, Kraiburg has also made its city bus design K702 available in 230 mm and 260mm sizes. The design lends the K702 excellent traction and braking properties, even in extreme weather
conditions, such as on snow-covered and wet road surfaces. It is made with the K_plus compound, guar- anteeing maximum mileage, even wear and cool running. Its irregular pattern also ensures low noise emission levels. The K702 will be sold in cut-to-length sections only.
Vipal has announced the introduction of an updated and improved version of its proprietary DV-RT4 tread design. The new version of the design, recommended for highway transport, has received adjustments that deliver improved performance, making it suitable for regional use as well.
One of the product’s new features are the ties between lugs to provide better balance and stability in severe conditions. Ideal for powerful vehicles that place high demand on tyres, the DV-RT4 offers high mileage due to its wider contact area with the ground. It is recommended for drive axles in transport services that requires a high level of performance.
The new DV-RT4 also stands out for

its abrasion resistance and uniform wear throughout its life. It also provides better grip on slipper y surfaces, such as mud and snow. The cut markers represent another distinctive feature, indicating the proper cut point on the tread itself, which helps to provide a better look at the join.
MAE Industria Gomma has announced that it has added a number of new ST compression mould envelopes to its production range for use with the extended skirt ARC system. According to MAE the envelopes offer heavy duty heat and deformation resistance, lowest cost per cure and the best possible fitment.
The new sizes are ST 42X36 (for 315/80-22.5), ST 42X34 (11-24.5), ST 40X34 (295/80–22.5 and 11- 22.5) and ST 40X32 (295/70-22.5, 275/80-22.5, 305/70-22.5 and 285/75-24.5).
In addition to the above MAE codes ST 44X32 and ST40X26-A are now available for the double envelope system.
Marangoni Raises Prices in Europe
New Treads from Galgo
Effective February, Marangoni’s Retreading Systems Division has announced a 4-8 per cent price increase in the cost of its retreading materials throughout all countries of the European Area, with actual increases depending on the product category. The increase will be applied to markets invoiced in Euros, while the sales price percentage increase will be different in other currencies.
This increase reflects the increased cost of raw materials used by the retreading sector, the rapid evolution of which has been caused by increased demand at a global level as well as a reduction in available quantities. In particular, the price of polymers, of the most direct derivatives of oil and especially of natural rubber have made this intervention necessary after several months of constant growth.
The price increase follows an
extended period (2012-2015) where raw materials and tyre prices decreased in parallel and regularly. The price increase of raw materials has already
forced various manufacturers of new tyres and/or materials for retreading to declare price increases or programme them for the coming weeks. Marangoni believes that these increases will not have a negative effect on the competitiveness of the retreading industry. Actually, the retreaded tyre, since it uses less raw materials compared to the new product, will benefit from this trend.
According to forecasts, this raw materials growth for the rubber sector will not stop during the next quarter and, as a result, this may lead to a further price increase, probably starting in the following month.
Galgo has expanded its range of tread patterns with a number of new designs.
Firstly the Mexican tread manufacturer has expanded its super wide base design portfolio for Long Haul applications with the new SRL tread (Super Single Rib Light). The new tread has a 295 mm width (11 5/8”), and a 10.5 mm depth (13/32”).
According to Galgo the SRL tread is one of the best choices for tyres such as the 385/65R22.5, being ideal for free axles. A six rib tread with outer rounded ribs, helps improve resistance to scrubbing and tearing in the shoulder area as well as providing excellent millage for long haul applications.
Due to its shallow depth the SRL design helps diminish wear and tyre fatigue, whilst its low rolling resistance design helps the carrier in terms of fuel savings.
Next, in order to meet the needs of the market, Galgo has introduced the new WGT tread (Winter Grooved Traction) for regional applications. This tread is offered in four different sizes, which are: 250, 260, 270 millimetres wide, with a depth of 22 millimetres (9 7/8, 10 2/8, 10 5/8 inches wide, with a depth of 27.5/32) In addition to this, for the 280 millimetre width
the company offers 20 millimetres depth (11 inches wide, 27.5/32inches in depth). According to Galgo, this is one of the best options for the retreading market because it offers great mileage in regional applications. Its grooved block design is aligned to the tyre rotation, which helps decrease rolling resistance. These blocks offer greater traction for muddy or snowy roads. It also has union bridges between blocks, helping reduce irregular wear (toe- heel).
Finally, the company has introduced the new APL (All Position Regional Light) tread design, featuring a continuous shoulder rib tread. This design feature contributes greatly to the design’s low rolling resistance, high mileage performance, and uniform tread wear.
The APL tread is claimed to be an excellent tread option for tyre retreading because it offers greater security and mileage due to the high contact on the road. In addition, it offers the retreading market a light tread design option, which helps prevent a higher casing fatigue during operation.
It is available in widths ranging from 230 to 260 millimetres and 30% less depth than the APR design.
Range Extension for Kraiburg
Kraiburg has announced a number of additions to its range of tread patterns.
Firstly, the popular K225 traction pattern is now also available in a "lightweight" version as the K227. Kraiburg has reduced the tread depth by 4.5 mm to 17 mm, making the K227 suitable for tyres in both the 70 range and the 60 range. The design is intended for mixed road use and is available in
widths 260, 270 mm and 280 mm. A further width of the K801 and the K702 is also on the market. The longitudinal K801 pattern is one of the best-sellers in the Kraiburg range – designed for use in local and long-distance traffic on trailer, semi-trailer and tag axles. In response to the high demand from the company’s retreading partners, the product range now comes in 335 mm for the dimensions 385/55
