STTC Opens New Jersey Retread Plant
Service Tire Truck Centers, headquartered in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, has announced the opening of a new Oliver Rubber retread facility in Millville, NJ. This facility will increase STTC’s ability to service the southern New Jersey/Pennsylvania market with the brand’s high-quality retreading and related services to the intermodal industry.
"STTC has a long track record of helping commercial truck owner/operators minimise

downtime and control costs while keeping their vehicles running at peak performance, an approach that aligns well with the Oliver brand,” said Scott Murray, Vice President and Director of Sales - Oliver Rubber Company, LLC. “We are excited about STTC joining the Oliver family.”
STTC is currently a Michelin truck
to provide the right tread for any type of customer or government entity,” said Walter J. Dealtrey, chairman, Service Tire Truck Centers, Inc. “Intermodal companies realise the importance of having quality retreads to minimise their tyre-related downtime. For us, Oliver will fill that need.”
Lewis General Tires of Rochester, New York, has been a family owned and run business since 1919.
The company has been a Goodyear truck tyre dealer since 2011 when it became a Goodyear GX3 dealer.
G3X is Goodyear’s wholesale distribution programme for consumer and commercial tyre dealerships.
Craig Lewis, president of Lewis General Tires,
states that the
casing quality was
a key driver for the
move to Goodyear
retreading.
“We believe that
Goodyear’s truck
tyre casings are the
best in the
industry,” says
Lewis. “I felt that
in order to be the
best retreader we
could be, we had
to be aligned with
Goodyear.”
Experience of the
level of support
given by Goodyear
also helped edge
the decision
towards Goodyear
retreading.
Lewis General
Tires, which also
sells Goodyear
OTR tyres, finished installation of new Goodyear retreading equipment at its plant and produced its first Goodyear retread in March 2016.
The company plans to hike production as early as next year. “Our customers are going to be very happy with the Goodyear product,” says Lewis. “And we’re going to pick up lots of new accounts.”

TRIB Holds Spot the Retread Contest at Mid-America Trucking Show
TRIB held their annual "Spot the Retread" contest for attendees of the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville from March 31 - April 2. With the help of several TRIB member companies, the Association was able to display a selection of new and retreaded tyres for contestants to try and identify. Contestants had a chance to win one of five sets of eight retreaded tyres (or four wide-base retreaded tyres).
TRIB say they had over
300 attendees test their skills at
correctly identifying the tyres. There was a small decrease this year by the contestants compared to last year as only 28 per cent of them were able to correctly identify all the retreaded tyres. As in previous years, this provided a great opportunity for TRIB to
have broader discussions with the attendees about the quality of retreaded tyres and the purchase options through TRIB members for these owner- operators and fleets.
