Vipal has New Tread Approved by SmartWay
Goodyear Adds UniCircle Tread
Vipal has announced that its VT170 ECO tread has just been verified by the SmartWay Transport programme.
The VT170 ECO is recommended for use on drive axles, for radial tyres that travel on paved roads. Its low rolling resistance generates less heat,
ensuring less fatigue on the casing. What’s more, the tread has high traction power on wet surfaces, and greater resistance to abrasion wear. As part of the ECO line, the VT170 follows the pattern of using special rubber compounds developed by Vipal and is the second Vipal tread to be verified by the SmartWay programme. In 2014, the brand had its VL130 ECO tread approved.
The SmartWay Transport program, created in 2004 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), aims for reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) in North American cargo transport.
Oil field and other mixed-service fleets that want enhanced traction and more miles to removal have a new option in The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s G186 MSA (Mixed- Service All-Position) UniCircle retread, which features Goodyear’s splicless UniCircle Technology.
Available now, the G186 MSA UniCircle boasts three zig-zag circumferential grooves for extra all- season traction, a long-wearing compound for increased tread life, and other features, according to the company.
“Goodyear UniCircle retreads feature a spliceless, seamless design, which offers several benefits, including snug adherence to a tyre’s casing to enhance uniformity, casing endurance and toughness,” said Brian Buckham, general manager, product marketing, Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems. “This is important for mixed-service trucks that travel across challenging
surfaces.”
The company noted another benefit of Goodyear UniCircle Technology is how the spliceless tread is applied to casings. Goodyear UniCircle treads are automatically positioned on casings using laser-guided technology and are precision- stitched. Because there is no cutting or splicing during the UniCircle tread application process, the resulting retread is uniform and balanced, which helps extend casing life and mileage.
“The G186 MSA UniCircle is the latest addition to our full line of UniCircle retreads,” said Buckham. “We believe it will become the ‘go- to’ retread product for mixed-service fleets.”
Boka: New Excavator Tyres from Bohnenkamp
Bohnenkamp AG offers with the Boka Excavator a retreaded tyre for wheeled excavators, which can also be used as
the normal existing rim 8:25 x 22.5, the R 22.5 is usually suitable for the size 315/80.
The hot retreaded excavator tyre is ideal for use as a dual wheel. The Boka Excavator has a special shoulder design, the 8:25 x 22.5 is flush in conjunction with the rim. So the tyre is optimally protected against injuries caused by stones, wood and other debris during use. Thus, the stability of the machine is increase enormously.
The newly developed profile for which moulds have been manufactured, provides good traction and prevents stones and other foreign objects from jamming in the tread and damaging the tyre
Karsten Krückeberg, Head of EM & Truck said "The Boka Excavator is eminently suitable for use as a dual tyre on the 8:25 x22.5 rim. In addition, the tyre offers a real advantage on price when compared to a new tyre."
Michelin Launches Latest SmartWay Approved Retread
Michelin’s X Multi Energy D Pre- Mold tread offers high mileage, exceptional fuel economy and superior friction resistance in regional applications according the manufacturer.
Michelin Americas Truck Tires, division of Michelin North America Inc., has launched the XMD MultiMC Energy D Pre- MoldMC Michelin for regional applications and super-regional markets. Complementing drive tyre XMD MultiMC D Michelin Energy launched earlier this year, the SmartWay approved retread offers high mileage, exceptional fuel economy and superior friction resistance in regional applications. In fact, Michelin guarantees that its tread will last 25per cent longer than that of competitors retreaded tyres. The X Multi Energy D Michelin is also guaranteed for a
second retread when used on a Michelin carcass by Michelin Retread Technologies retreaders.. "With the trend for shorter trips in the trucking industry, customers are looking for tyres and retreaded tyres that can be used on the highway and regional roads," says Sylvaine Cuniberti, Director of Marketing at Michelin North America (Canada). The Michelin X Multi Energy D Pre-Mold has a double compound. The top layer provides exceptional mileage. The lower layer insulates the tread, thereby minimising the internal temperature of the carcass to reduce the rolling resistance and extend the life of the carcass.
This retread is available in three tread widths: 220, 230 and 240 - all with a tread depth of 21/32- inch.

Oliver Rubber’s Drive-Position Retread
Oliver Rubber’s PD Drive is an open- shouldered drive-position retread for line-haul and regional applications and has been verified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay programme for low rolling resistance. The company’s proprietary tread compounding is engineered to resist wear, while the open shoulder is designed for increased traction. Suited for single- and tandem-axle tractors, the PD Drive has 22/32nds of tread
depth and is available in sizes 205, 215, 220 and 230.
