Sun City to Shift Ajman Plant to Saudi Arabia
Ajman Sun City is planning to move out of the UAE market in the face of stiff competition in an overcrowded market. The company, which entered the market about nine years ago, is looking to relocate the plant to Madina in Saudi Arabia.
“Saudi is a big country and retreading is picking-up in that market,” said Abdul Hamid of Sun City Renew Tyres Manufacturing LLC. Sun City plans to set-up 500-600 tyres capacity plant in Saudi market.
Currently, production in the Ajman plant stands at around 16 tyres per day. “We used to retread 32 tyres per day in 2007-08. That was the best time and after that market has continue to slide down every year,” he stressed.
“There is confusion over the policy and acceptability of retreading in the UAE,” he added. “Trucks are allowed to move on retreaded tyres in some Emirates but not in all. The lack of a unified policy on retreading in all the Emirates makes it difficult for retreaders to run their operations. Saudi Arabia is one country - one rule and retreading is accepted there.”
Kwality Tyre Install New Equipment at Misfa Plant
Kwality Tyre Retreaders LLC, which started its retreading activities around 13 years ago in Al Wadi Al Kabir, shifted its plant to a new location at Misfa Industrial Area a few years back. Al Wadi Al Kabir is around 8 kms from Muscat international airport. “Wadi Kabir was transforming increasingly into residential locality, therefore, we decided
to shift the unit to the Misfa Industrial Area,” said Ail Kumar of Kwality Tyre Retreading LLC. The retreader also changed the whole plant machinery about a year ago and replaced it with equipment from the Coimbatore, India based Rajmahal equipment manufacturer, installing a 14- tyre chamber. However, the shrinking retreading market size in Oman is a cause of concern for the company. “We used to retread 800-900 tyres per month a couple of years back but due to the competition from cheap imported new tyres, production has slid down to
500-600 tyres now,” Anil stated. To survive in the market, Kwality has expanded its product range and now also retails new tyres. “We have diversified into selling Chinese brands like Longmarch during the last year,” he said. In its retread plant the company uses Midas tread shipped directly from India.
The Misfa plant caters to an area stretching from Al-Buraimi towards the UAE border. “We supply to a market covering a radius of almost 1,000 km from this plant,” Anil said.
