Fall in Retread Sales Hits Pneu Laurent
focuses its business on retreads for trucks and buses. The proposed new business line will focus on the development of large industrial
tyres, up to six metres in diameter, for dumpers, heavy construction machinery and similar vehicles
countries have risen. The background to this is the current low commodity and oil prices, which allows manufacturers in the Far East to produce at very low prices.
Short-time working at Pneu Laurent is expected, initially, until the end of February next year. "What will happen then,
we cannot currently make any forecasts," said Markus Lamb CEO of the company.
Faced with the short-time working at Pneu Laurent, Oranienburg Mayor Hans-Joachim Laesicke spoke of a "fateful development". If such a large employer operates on short-time work, this is a regrettable situation for Oranienburg and it will affect the city economy.
There is hope that this action will be of a temporary nature. It is not the first time that Pneu Laurent at Oranienburg operated on short time working. It previously had to take this action in 2013.
Marangoni and Al Shirawi Enterprises: A New Partnership in Dubai
and the UAE
The Pneu Laurent retread operation at Oranienburg, Germany, is feeling the pinch from a drop in retread truck and bus tyre sales. The Michelin owned retreader is having to react to what it says is a persistently weak market by putting its plant on short working hours. The 110 production staff have seen their hours cut as from the start of September.
The key reasons for the short time working have been given, in a statement by the company as: Firstly, the continued weak sales to the entire market for retreaded truck tyres. On the other hand, imports of cheap tyres from Asian
Marangoni partnered in May 2015 with Al Shirawi Enterprises as the exclusive distributor of Marangoni brand industrial tyres for Dubai and the UAE.
During a visit to Dubai, Adam Dudas-Smith, Export Area Manager of Marangoni Industrial Tyres, announced that Al Shirawi Enterprises has shown a great commitment to the promotion of the Marangoni brand after taking
the role of non-exclusive distributor for the two areas.
The exclusive contract between Marangoni and Al Shirawi Enterprises, to enhance the name and image of the brand in the region, follows the investment made by the Arab company in a 300t tyre press and the purchase of an initial stock of Marangoni industrial tyres.
Spanish Retreader Baldajos’ Plans Under Scrutiny
Langreo city council is carefully studying plans by Spanish retreader Baldajos to expand its operations by completely occupying the premises at its site at the La Moral industrial area. The company says that it needs the space to develop new product lines and it is prepared to invest three million Euros over the next two years and create another six jobs at its plant, bringing its total staff level to 35.
The Langreo mayor, Jesus Sanchez, cautiously welcomed plans from Baldajos, who are scheduled to
meet with the local government to present their project and begin negotiating land acquisition. "It is good news that a company wants to expand its activity in Langreo," said the mayor.
Baldajos wants to take all available land in La Moral II, about 20,000 square metres, both to expand its production facilities and to have a greater storage space.
The marketing of this property stalled due to the economic crisis and there has been little other interest from other potential
occupiers. However, the city council held back on development to ensure that the first part of the project was fully occupied before allowing further development. This has delayed developments by Baldajos.
Baldajos collects and retreads tyres from tyre outlets and fleets from Galicia, Asturias, Zamora, Leon, Valladolid, Burgos, Cantabria, Basque Country, La Rioja, Navarra, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands for treatment.

KRAIBURG Runs "Pro Retreading" Workshop in Czech Republic
Following on from the second Kraiburg summit, Kraiburg Austria invited its Czech and Slovakian customers to a workshop at the end of September in Černá Hora in the Czech Republic. The retreading specialist gave a status report on the ReTyre project, telling the background stor y and explaining the necessity for the impending tyre labelling.
Kraiburg sales representative Milan Gajdos also presented a summar y of the suitability of the Kraiburg designs for winter in conjunction with the new snowflake symbol system and introduced the new products in the K_base, K_tech and K_plus ranges, including their performance and mileage results. The guests – of whom there were about 20 in all – were also very
interested in the current BRV "Pro Retreading" campaign. A lively discussion ensued in which the debate centred around what stance the retreaders would be best advised to take to stem the tide of Chinese budget tyres and what methods Kraiburg can adopt to offer support in this regard.
The Upper Austrian company presented the German "Pro Retreading" campaign to the Czech retreading association after the event – with a view to reaching an international audience with the message of sustainability and economic efficiency conveyed through the German educational advertising initiative in favour of retreads.
