Tread rubber manufacturer Sun Rubber, a subsidiary of Sunrich Integrated Sdn Bhd (SRIT) recently held an event at the Royal Bintang Spa and resort in Seremban, Malaysia to celebrate the company’s achievement in obtaining three key product certifications and the mark the opening of a new advanced mixing plant.
Guests of honour at the event included Yang Berhormat Datuk Wira Haji Ahmad Haji Hamzah, Chairman of the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB), Yang Berbahagia Datuk Dr Salmiah Ahmad, Director General of MRB, Mr. Ang Tee Thien, Executive Advisor of TRMAM (Malaysian Retreaders Association), Tuan Haji Basori Selamat, Senior GM of the SIRIM QAS certifying board and Puan Wan Fariza Binti Johari, Executive, Senior GM Office of SIRIM QAS.
The main purpose of the event was to celebrate Sun Rubber’s achievement in becoming the first rubber compounder in Malaysia to achieve three product certifications by SIRIM as the key raw material requirements stipulated in the MS224 retreading standard. These are MS1208 for precured tread, MS1097 for hot cure compound and MS1394 for cushion gum.
During his opening speech SRIT Group MD Low Kian Beng pointed out the significance of the certifications to SRIT; “Apart
from complying with the MS224 quality standards for retread tyres, the latest products certification means that the rubber compound materials we supply are now in full compliance with all the material requirements stipulated in MS224. Therefore, retread tyres produced by certified MS224 retreaders, couple with the use of materials meeting these stringent requirements of MS224, are now even safer for use. As mentioned by Deputy Minister of Transport on 23rd March 2015, “tayar celup” (i.e. retread tyres) are safe to use if they are retreaded in full compliance with MS224. For all of us here, being the main players in the tyre retreading industr y, we should continue to do our part to make the re-use of retreaded tyres SAFE while ever yone SAVEs.”
Low also announced that the installation of the new advanced mixing line at Sun Rubber Industry’s facility in Seremban will mark a new development in allowing retreads to achieve increased levels of environmental friendliness. In conjunction with the plant opening, SRIT had signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Malaysian Rubber Board to carr y out collaborative research on the development and commercialisation of Epoxidised Natural Rubber (Ekoprena).
Ekoprena is the tradename of a
superior properties for tyre applications. The unique combination of Ekoprena tread compound reinforced with highly dispersible silica filler as jointly developed by MRB and SRIT needs an advanced mixing line to produce the green compound. This special modified natural rubber compound offers advancements in the key performances of tyres namely reduced rolling resistance and improved wet grip, which in turn contributes to lowering fuel consumption and improving tyre safety.
tyres under Malaysian conditions are being conducted together with SRIT. The performance of specially modified natural rubber retreads is being compared with commercial retreads.
Said Low; “We are confident that MRB and SRIT will be able to make Ekoprena a new flagship rubber product for Malaysia as we firmly believe in “Green Retread Tyres” that will offer low rolling resistance for fuel saving and improved wet grip.”
