     Tatko Group Continues Growth Despite Difficult Market Conditions
 Turkish tyre distribution and retreading specialists Tatko Group continue to achieve growth in Turkey and the Middle East despite the economic and political difficulties in the region. According to CEO Vedat Ozçelik the Turkish market has seen a 5% year-on-year fall in the truck tyre market and a 21% decline in light truck tyre sales
respectively. The Group employs 260 people with a USD 125 million turnover and sells a total of 720,000 tyres per annum.
Growing particularly quickly is Sertas, the Group’s tyre distribution arm, which employs 72 people with a turnover equivalent to USD 53.6 million. Last year the company, who is the exclusive distributor for
retreader in Turkey. The company, which achieved ECE 109 status in 2008, has the biggest production volume in Turkey. The factory, which operates entirely on a COC basis due to the ongoing
casing import ban in Turkey, uses well known tread rubber brands.
According to the company, Tatkap is maintaining its volumes in a market, which is currently under pressure and concerned about to potential impact on the retread market when import duties on Chinese tyres are removed next year.

Tyre operation is currently growing at around 10% per annum, producing a total of 2,980 OTR retreads last year. The company claims 7% share of the EM tyre market in Turkey but 15% of the market for tyres over 24” in diameter.

the wood sector.
Tatkotim are currently
working at 80% of
capacity but are looking to increase production to
4,000 tyres per annum by
adding a third shift to the production schedule.

  caused in part by a lack of confidence due to uncertainties in the political situation in neighbouring countries (in particular Ukraine and Syria). Despite this, and a significant 20% drop in the domestic market in September, Tatko are reporting that they are holding their own in a difficult market and even expanding significantly in some sectors.
Tatko consists of four companies in Turkey – Tatkap (truck tyre retreading and fleet management), Tatkotim (OTR retreading), Sertas (tyre distribution and franchising) and Tatko Otomotiv (retreading materials and consumables – plus two further retreading subsidiaries in Kazakhstan and Ukraine
Riken and Marshal branded tyres in Turkey sold half a million consumer tyres and this year expects to increase this to 650,000. The company also operates two rapidly growing franchise dealership network. The Lastik Park chain, set up in 2010, currently has 320 outlets, whilst a second chain, Herlastik, was established earlier this year. According to Ozçelik, Sertas is enjoying a year of significant growth this year and now aims to increase the Lastik Park chain to 500 outlets and Herlastik to 250.
Meanwhile Tatko’s retreading and fleet management division continues to operate as the largest
Ukraine in addition to supplying to retreader customers in Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia and Ukraine.
Managing Director Ilker Deliktas also points out the leading role that the company is playing in bringing the ECE 109 regulation to the ultimate level in Turkey, for which the Ministry of Industry has been fulfilling field visits and facility controls since last year.
With this purpose in mind, Tatko Otomotiv recently held an ECE 109 Regulation Contact Meeting, which was the first widely participated meeting in Turkey on this subject, and which is expected to bring a discipline and standard to the sector.
