Indian tread maker Tolins has announced that it is building a tread making facility in the UAE. The company forayed into the UAE a few years back when it set up a plant in Ras Al Khaimah for making bonding gum, which later expanded to manufacturing side strips also. The Ras Al Khaimeh plant was a launching pad for the company to expand its product portfolio in the Middle East. The plant also acted as a supply base for selling precured tread in the whole region. Ras Al Khaimah is in the Northern part of the UAE bordering Oman.
Now the company is graduating to the next level by building a tread making facility in a location called ‘Al Jazeera’ in Ras Al Khaimah. “We are building a 30,000 sq ft structure that houses our tread making venture with an investment of INR 15 crore,” informed K V Tolins, Managing Director, Tolins Tyres & Tread Ltd. The plant will produce camelback for conventional hot retreading and is expected to be functional by mid 2014. “The plant will have a manufacturing capacity of 300 tonnes per month, although initially, the production will begin at
100 tonnes. This will allow production to be hiked later according to demand,” added Tolins.
When asked why company is entering the market with camelback, Tolins replied, “UAE authorities are fining hauliers with tyres retreaded with precured tread but allowing tyres retreaded with camelback as they have long shoulders and good finishing which is identical to new tyres.” The company plans to start producing precured tread at a later stage once the policy on the precured process is clarified.
Tolins is expanding its retreading operations rapidly inside and outside the countr y. The company has opened a new tread making facility of 300 tones per month capacity in Coimbatore in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu in the last quarter of 2013. Meanwhile, Tolins has also set sights on the African market. The company registered an entity in Kenya under the title ‘Tolins Tyres Kenya Ltd’ last December. “We are setting-up a plant to manufacture bonding gum in Nairobi and it will be functional in the next few

The company has also opened a Tyre Shop in Deira Dubai to sell its tyre range for pick-ups in sizes 650/14 to 650/16. It sells around 5,000 tyres per
hope it will pick up from the first quarter of 2015. However, our tyre business is picking up and we are supplying tyres to the Middle East and African market from our UAE operation.”
