Two new treads were launched during the event: HTR 2 SA with wings (wing tread) and HTL Eco Plus, both for trailer application. Continental announced last year its
entr y in the retreading segment and has awarded three licenses to companies interested in working in this sector. The first, in Camaçari, Bahia, began production in December and is capable of delivering over 7,200 retread tyres per year. The second unit, installed
in Fortaleza, Ceará, is also already in operation, and the third, in Pará, began operations in October 2013.
"We expect to have some more licenses granted in order to expand our coverage in the country. At first, the focus is on the provision of retread services in major centres. The partners will have the technical and logistical support of our staff, from the definition of layouts to the selection of machinery, through training of sales professionals and retreaders," explains Wilson Ronzella, product manager at Continental retread tyres.

During the event Pirelli launched a new range of radial tyres: the 01 Series. The new product, developed at the Centre for Research and Development in Brazil, Santo Andre (SP), uses Italian technology, renewing Pirelli’s entire line designed to meet all applications for trucks and buses. Consisting of products for every type of cargo vehicles, passenger, mixed and urban employment, the new range has been developed in view of the peculiarities of the South American conditions and will gradually replace the entire product line.
With an investment of
approximately $200 million in Brazil between 2012 and 2015, the new tyres will be produced at the factory in Santo André, in the state of São Paulo, and at Gravesend in Rio Grande do Sul, using an industrial process developed especially for the segment of transportation and using the company’s unique SATT TM technology (Advanced Spiral technology for Truck).
