Rema Tip Top and Italmatic Cooperate in UK
Retreading equipment, rasp blades and retreading accessories are now available to UK based retreaders through Rema Tip Top UK Ltd. This is due to the fact that John Bowes, the long-standing Italmatic representative in the UK has now joined Rema Tip Top as Sales Development Manager Retread Division.
The move will allow Rema Tip Top more access to the retread sector in
the UK, thanks to Bowes’ experience and long list of contacts in the retread market and it is hoped to result in the increased sales of Tip Top repair materials in the UK, including the UK-manufactured MTC range of repair materials.
The co-operation with Bowes will also allow Rema Tip Top access to Spain Rubber’s range of products for the Industrial Division.

Fiji Bandag Expands
Bandag is a global brand and even in the far reaches of the Pacific Ocean the Bandag brand has placed its marker. Fiji Bandag is part of PA Lal Coachwork, a Fijian operation that is looking to expand and develop by adding new tyres, batteries and other accessories to its range. However, at the heart of the operation are two Bandag franchises.
"Fiji Bandag has been in the tyre recycling business of retreading with two franchise - one in Suva and another in Labasa.” Said Managing Director, Richard Lal. "The Suva franchise had been running for 35 years in 2011 and the Labasa franchise celebrates 30 years this year.
"We have met and maintained the high standards that are set by the franchiser and have set the pace as Fiji's market leader."
Despite Fiji Bandag venturing into new tyres, batteries and fully
serviced centres, he said, retreading was still the heart of their business. He said they were expanding exports to other Pacific Island nations and hoped to be the principle supplier of buses and coaches to the Pacific.
The company's policy, according to Lal, was aligned to the Fijian government's policy of buying "Fijian-made" and keeping our own people upskilled and employed. This, he said, would enable the company to contribute to Fiji's gross domestic product and development.
"Our buses and coaches are certified as 'Fijian-made' products and at the 2013 Vodafone and Westpac Prime Minister's exporter of the year awards, PA Lal Coachwork was presented the “Import Substitution” award. "This was ver y encouraging," Richard Lal said.

The hot cure truck tyre retreading segment is facing a positive development in several markets due to the growing presence of new truck tyre manufacturers both with their own production plants as well as with their outsourced programmes. Besides being more similar to the process used to produce new truck tyres, hot cure retreading technology has gained a new momentum over the last few years thanks to
the innovative tyre building process developed by Marangoni Meccanica and deriving from its Alpha strip winding.

confirmed, in 2013, the success of this technology with its top level building machines called “Black Dragon”. The Black Dragon, claimed to be the best machine available on the market for bead to bead application, is available in two versions: the Black Dragon 90, featuring a rotating twin turret serving a 90mm extruder for tread application and a vertical extruder

Taking into consideration the two current versions and the previous version without sidewall applicator, it is fair to say that almost all top European hot retreading plants rely on this machine for their activity, and the interest shown by the customers for this machine points to a positive 2014 as well.
