Dunlop’s Focus on Export Growth Continues
Birmingham-based Dunlop Aircraft Tyres, the world’s only dedicated aircraft tyre manufacturer and retreader, which exports more than 80 per cent of the products it makes in the UK, attended the Paris Air Show as part of its campaign to build on its success in the aircraft tyre market.
The company’s attendance at the show came as the French Air Force prepared to take delivery of the first production Airbus Militar y A400M, a transport aircraft fitted with tyres featuring new foreign object damage (FOD) resistance tyre
and 600 ATR 72s in service with airlines around the world.
And for operators of the 4,300 Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft in service, Dunlop was showing the latest version of its mainwheel tyre which is proving increasingly popular with a growing number of airlines.
“We are excited to display and discuss some of our new radial products at the Paris Air Show,” said Dunlop Aircraft Tyres’ chairman, Ian Edmondson. “These new tyres will further strengthen our position as a major
its share of the automotive market, by opening three retreading plants in Ecuador (two for retreaded truck tyres and one OTR plant) - all featuring the latest Marangoni technology.
The agreement has been facilitated by new policies implemented by Ecuador’s government to encourage sustainable development, protect and safeguard the environment, and consequently greatly favours all recycling and retreading processes. Kléver Vaca Garzón, the company’s President, believes that the partnership with Marangoni will represent a further important source
of growth and profits, not only because users can be offered a high- quality exclusive product through the use of Ringtread technology, but also because it will help create new employment, reduce consumption of natural resources and lower waste production. Moreover, the objective is to help end users keep costs down by using highly reliable tyres that can guarantee improved efficiency and prevent the risk of vehicle downtime.
The Marangoni-Mavesa partnership aims to produce around 60,000 tyres a year at the three plants.
technology developed by Dunlop. Dunlop’s new tyres feature the better sidewall FOD resistance of bias tyres, which are more suited to operations from semi and unprepared airstrips, as well as advanced materials designed to give improved protection in the tread area.
More than 170 A400M transport aircraft have been ordered by eight countries, thus adding to Dunlop’s presence within the military transport market.
Also at Paris, Dunlop Aircraft Tyres was showcasing new radial tyres that will help it become even more competitive in the regional aircraft market.
Among the new products being shown were radial mainwheel tyres for the Embraer 170 regional jet and the popular ATR 72 turboprop. There are more than 350 E-170s
supplier to airlines operating some of the most popular regional and single-aisle airliners. These are typically high cycle operation aircraft that replace tyres more frequently than the larger twin aisle jets.
“At the same time, our involvement on the A400M shows our innovative approach to finding solutions to the challenges faced when airframe manufacturers are developing new aircraft.
“While the global economic environment remains challenging, we have been seeing strong export growth. This has particularly been the case in the Far East, where we have opened a retread and new tyre distribution facility.”
Dunlop Aircraft Tyres won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2011 for its international sales success.
Reifen Returns
The 28th International Reifen Tyre Fair is scheduled to take place on May 27 - 30, 2014 at Messe Essen, who will once again play host to the largest tyre industry show in the world: The International Tyre Fair will once again serve as an
innovation forum for all the important areas of the sector such as new tyres, vulcanisation, tyre retreading, trading and services as well as tyre and chassis technology. Messe Essen reports a high demand on the part of exhibitors, with more square metres of exhibition area having already been rented out than at the comparable point in time two years ago. In addition, it is becoming apparent that a large number of companies
are planning their Reifen premieres in 2014 and want to make use of the reputation of the fair to launch their new product, as well as to maintain contacts.
The manufacturers of the best innovations can have hopes of
winning the Reifen Innovation Award: The "Oscar" of the tyre sector will be conferred in the three categories: "Technology and Products", "Service Concepts and Process Optimisation" as well as "Environmental and Resource Conservation". Messe
Essen and Bundesverband Reifenhandel und Vulkaniseur- Handwerk (BRV - "Federal Association of the Tyre Trade and the Vulcanisers' Skilled Trade") will hand over the prize for the fifth time and are pleased about the constantly growing numbers of participants. In 2012, 28 manufacturers of innovative solutions for everything to do with wheels and tyres competed for the mark of recognition.
