Fuel Calculator Version 2.0 Helps Fleets Reduce Fuel Bills and Emissions
Goodyear Dunlop has upgraded the free Internet fuel saving calculator launched in February 2012. Among the improvements in the new version are EU tyre label grades, updated data, more truck configurations and additional languages.
The calculator was introduced to help fleets assess the effect on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions that tyre choice, aerodynamic aids, driver training and other changes could make. This enables transport managers to ‘configure’ their vehicles on their computers and calculate the effect that changes will have on their fuel bills and carbon emissions.
The new EU tyre label grades for fuel efficiency, which are to be introduced in November, can now be factored in, allowing more accurate tyre comparisons. In addition to the five vehicle configurations previously shown, the new version further includes 6x2 rigids and six-axle 44 tonne artics. The calculator, which is available in English and Dutch, will also be available in French, Spanish and Portuguese very shortly.
Using the calculator could not be easier. The calculator is at www.fleet-calculator.eu and after signing on, the webpage shows symbols for the vehicle, aerodynamic aids, tyres and driver.
In the vehicle section, there are seven vehicle types to select from followed by choices to cover the operational region, mileage and fuel cost. The next section is aerodynamic aids, where various types can be selected. The third
section is tyres and here the tyre label grades, mileage and costs are selected. Finally the driver section allows a choice according to the level of training. Once the options have been selected, a pdf of the results can be directly downloaded.
The results show the current annual operating costs in Euros without the fuel-saving measures as well as the results after the inclusion of the chosen measures.
These are displayed as:
- Net cost savings per year
- Annual CO2 savings in kgs - Annual fuel savings in liters - Fuel saving per 100 km The calculator is available free of charge to vehicle operators or any interested person.
Boris Stevanovic, Marketing Director Truck Tyres, Goodyear Dunlop EMEA., said: “The calculator has been very popular, particularly with fleet operators.
The new upgrade makes the results more accurate and also covers more variables. In particular, the new EU label grades will make tyre comparison more accurate and clearly show operators how significant correct tire choice can be on operating costs and emissions.”
The calculator was developed alongside Panteia/NEA which provided detailed market information from across Europe to ensure the model’s accuracy.
