mining people generally know little about retreading. Personnel from the mining companies are trained in Germany after which Rösler sends a technical expert out on-site to help during the set up. Paul Rösler explains;
“The mining business is booming in places like Africa and Asia and the major tyre manufacturers are not picking up on the demand. Alternative new tyre suppliers like Titan, Eurotire and Belshina are filling up some of the shortfall in the market but mines need to assure a constant supply of tyres. Our approach is to offer mines a good product similar to premium brands. Our main focus is on reliability and to develop a status as a reliable first choice partner. Rösler currently has plants in Germany, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan,
making good progress. We have recently also started running retreads on the East Coast of Australia for Rio Tinto in the Hunter Valley area. We are currently supplying 40.00 R 57 tyres but are looking at supplying 63” tyres within the next year”. Heat is a major issue in Australia and the company says it is working on heat studies to help reduce tyre temperature. With this in mind the company is looking at introducing treads with vents in and reduced tread depths as well as reducing depths of the base compound. This says Rösler, will reduce the heat in the tyre at least by 20 degrees.
In addition to completed projects the company says it is also in the final stages of development of two projects in Russia, one in Colombia and another in Indonesia. All four
   Rösler Tyre Innovators, the Germany based OTR retread specialists, have announced ambitious plans to develop their network of turnkey retreading plants on a global basis. In an interview carried out at their Dortmund headquarters, brothers Paul and Martin Rösler explained their plans to achieve between 20 and 30 plants over the next 5-10 years licensed to use the
Schelkmann retreading process, each with a capacity of ca. 1500 tyres p.a.
The company’s aim is to directly target mining companies who have the need for a high number of tyres each year. Faced with a scenario of global OTR tyre shortages, these companies are looking to guarantee their tyre supply. Rösler designs

Indonesia and Australia as well as a newly established plant set up in New Brunswick, Canada. The latest site, whose licensee is ABC Pneus, will serve the mining industry in Labrador and Newfoundland. The first tyres were produced in February this year. Meanwhile, the company’s operation in Perth, Australia is now breaking even. Says Rösler; “This has taken longer than we anticipated but we are now
are expected to be installed by early 2013.
Rösler currently has no ongoing projects in Africa but is actively looking at this area now. The company plans to establish a representative office there and ex- Kraiburg representative Mike Hargreaves has been appointed to take care of the local market. According to Paul and Martin Rösler plans are also afoot for Northern Chile, Eastern Australia, the Kuzbass region in Russia and Colombia (Barranquilla). India and Mongolia are also potential future markets.
