With HaGe Logistik entrusting its tyre management to Continental, Continental’s retreads continue to gain traction. With HaGe Logistik pooling its tyre service portfolio to ensure strong sustainability with Conti360° Solutions, Continental continues working towards the future of fleet management – Logistics 4.0.
HaGe Logistik Looks to an All-Round Tyre Service
Be it portside, the fields, rail and road, dirt tracks, or motorways, logistics and transport company HaGe-Logistik GmbH, based in Kiel, in the north of Germany covers all different types of terrain with its fleet. Explaining the routes the company undertakes, Fleet Manager for Ha-Ge Logistik, Malte Johannsen said, “With our highly versatile fleet, we are able to offer our customers in Germany and beyond a broad spectrum of transport services. We transport bulk agricultural goods such as grain and sugar beet, as well as other products.” When it comes to tyre management, the company puts its trust in a Conti360° service contract with retreaded tyres. “The tyres on our vehicles have to take a lot of rough treatment every day. So a professional all-round tyre service is worth its weight in gold,”
Johannsen noted that there are clear benefits of using Continental, explaining “With Conti360° we are effectively minimising our overall fleet costs by saving fuel, avoiding tyre damage and being able to supply our customers on schedule.” However, the company is also paying closer attention to its environmental and sustainable impact on the planet, with Johannsen adding, “We’re constantly dealing with environmental and climate-sensitive sectors, so we attach great importance to sustainability.”
Sustainability Practices Continue to Factor in Fleet Decisions
HaGe Logistik is very much on trend with its emphasis on sustainability. “The high overall demand for retreaded tyres underlines the fact that, for our customers, conserving resources and service are and will remain key points of focus,” says Ralf Benack, head of Fleet Business EMEA at Continental. In order to shine an even brighter spotlight on future themes such as digitalisation and sustainability, the company has brought together its tyre service portfolio for the fleet business and re-packaged it under the umbrella of Conti360° Solutions. The range of services is themed around sustainability, regionality and quality, and comprises the ContiLifeCycle retreading concept, Conti360° Fleet Solutions and digital tyre management solutions – each firmly focused on customer service and sustainability while helping reduce fleet costs.
ContiLifeCycle Plant Scores Record Order Numbers
The ContiLifeCycle plant at Hanover-Stöcken has reason to celebrate after posting record order numbers in 2020. The tyre factory has played a key role in the growing resurgence of retreads, with its hot and cold retreading services for truck and bus tyres, plus its industrial-scale rubber recycling facility. Reusing selected casings enables the consumption of energy and raw materials in the manufacturing process to be reduced, with the additional benefits of reduced end-of-life tyres being left for disposal, more money for fleets and an overall result of lower CO2 emissions and a cleaner environmental impact.
In Europe, the market includes more than 6,500 service partners offering fleet customers all-encompassing tyre management. This includes retreading, new tyre sales and the Conti360° Fleet Solutions all-round service package. Continental is pushing ahead with the growing need for greater sustainability and resource conservation by continuing to develop and add further models to its range of retreaded tyres.
An example of a recent tyre to Continental’s portfolio is the ContiRe Hybrid HT3 LI164 – now with a load capacity of five metric tons and a load index of 164 – which allows customers to cut their operating costs. The new axle load of 10 tons allows the maximum capacity of a trailer with one or two single axles. Other additions to the range include the ContiRe HDW2 Coach Bus tyre for long-distance passenger transport, the ContiRe Coach Regio HD3 and the ContiRe Crosstrac Line 315/80R22.5 and 385/65R22.5. Rounding off the ContiTread portfolio are the ContiTread Scan HD3 with winter tread for 17.5-inch and 19.5-inch rims and the ContiTread Hybrid LD3 with new treads for 17.5-inch and 19.5-inch rims.
How Continental Plan to Push Ahead for Logistics 4.0
As well as Continental’s extended range of retreaded tyres, the company is continuing to move away from being just a tyre and service provider into an integrated solutions supplier, by offering future fleet solutions in the form of an overall package. One package, the Conti360° Solutions contracts include digital solutions like ContiConnect, as well as ContiLifeCycle with its retreading products ContiRe and ContiTread, as well as casing management. “By sharpening the focus on the ContiLifeCycle concept in our Conti360° Solutions contracts, we are targeting greater sustainability in our fleet business,” explained Ralf Benack. “Conti360° Solutions makes us the partner of choice for sustainable fleet business.” A new look and new logo will make the reorganisation clearly visible for Continental customers.
The moves will see the company responding to changing customer requirements in a market shaped by advancing digitalisation, data-driven management and cost pressure. Added to these requirements, the strategic pooling of services in the tyre industry will help haulage industries to respond successfully to the greater need for greater sustainability in the field of logistics. This is all part of Continental’s “Vision 2030” programme, which was unveiled in December 2020. The strategic programme is looking to how to bridge the gap on increasingly data-controlled services, with the programme focused specifically on how the area of predictive maintenance – a key feature of Logistics 4.0, and how Continental can be at the forefront of this exciting development within the industry.
