The European Commission has approved Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd.’s (SRI) acquisition of the Dunlop Tire Business from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. The transaction, formally notified to the Commission on 18 March 2025, grants SRI sole control over Dunlop’s operations across Europe, North America, and Oceania.
SRI Clear to Acquire Dunlop brand
SRI, a Japanese manufacturer known for its Falken, Sumitomo, and Dunlop tyre brands, will take over trademarks and intangible assets necessary for marketing and selling Dunlop-branded tyres in these regions. Following a review under the simplified procedure, the Commission concluded that the acquisition raises no competition concerns and falls within the scope of the EU Merger Regulation and the EEA Agreement.

The Commission’s approval on 18 March 2025 relates to a concentration notified under Article 4 of the Merger Regulation. Under this concentration, SRI will assume sole control of the Dunlop Tire Business. The acquisition will be completed through the purchase of both assets and shares.
