B&J Rocket: Putting Retreading Back on the Global Map

Horst H Kübel, President and CEO of B&J Rocket, was in fine form as we started a conversation that quickly highlighted the importance of bringing the retreading industry into the spotlight. “Retreading is true recycling, and we need to put it back on the global map,” Kübel stated, emphasising the role of alliances like AZuR in advocating for the industry politically.

Dedication to Retreading Sustainability

Kübel mentioned B&J Rocket’s commitment to sustainability, noting their research in environmental adaptation. He proudly spoke of their legacy as innovators and inventors of buffing tools, underlining the dual purpose of supporting AZuR and promoting their brand at the fair. “We wanted to be here to welcome our friends, partners, and customers,” he said, looking for all opportunities to drive the whole industry together.

Addressing the industry’s challenges, Kübel acknowledged regional differences. “The US remains the biggest retread market, and we are well-represented there with B&J Rocket Americas,” he explained. However, he noted a trend of smaller retreaders disappearing, leading to industry consolidation. He argued that this could be beneficial as larger companies have more influence in advocating for retreading as a key part of recycling, as it’s always a shame to see smaller operators decline.

Kübel shared that B&J Rocket’s presence at The Tire Cologne was not about launching new products but strengthening relationships. “Developing entirely new products is tough in our age-old, complex industry. We’re here to meet friends, partners, and customers and to exchange knowledge,” he said. The open design of their stand facilitated this, attracting visitors from the US, Canada, Panama, Tanzania, and Europe. Reflecting on the event’s success, Kübel recounted, “We had an incredibly busy time with great discussions, even with competitors.

Looking ahead, Kübel desired greater participation from major tyre manufacturers. “I wish the big players would return to the show to help promote extending the lifecycle of their quality tyres,” he said. A key concern I’m sure we can all get behind.

B&J Rocket’s presence and congeniality at The Tire Cologne reinforces its position in the industry and commitment to sustainable practices.
