Michelin has reaffirmed its commitment to truck tyre retreading by expanding its REMIX® 2 range and introducing a second premium hot retread for the MICHELIN X MULTI range. This move aligns with the company’s long-standing expertise in retreading and leverages the durability of Michelin casings to enhance sustainability in the haulage sector.
Expansion of REMIX Retread Range
The REMIX® 2 range offers retreaded tyres that adhere to Michelin’s rigorous testing, manufacturing, and quality control standards. By adding this second premium retread to the X MULTI range—one of Europe’s most versatile and best-selling truck tyre selections—Michelin aims to enhance service life, performance, safety, and operating costs.
Following its application in the X INCITY range for urban transport and the X WORKS range for rugged terrain, the REMIX® 2 process is now available for X MULTI sizes 315/70 R 22.5 and 315/80 R 22.5. The expansion enables fleet managers to benefit from a sustainable retreading solution that delivers cost efficiencies while maintaining performance levels comparable to new tyres.
A Second Premium Hot Retread Offering
Michelin’s enhanced REMIX® 2 range allows fleet operators to have their casings collected and returned as high-quality retreads, extending the lifespan of premium tyres. The expanded range is now available in France, Benelux, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Timings for a UK launch are not outlined.
Michelin casings are recognised for their robustness and endurance, allowing multiple retreads without compromising performance. REMIX® 2 tyres deliver mileage performance close to 95% of that of new tyres while maintaining the same grip, traction, and safety standards. Manufactured using the same moulds as the first retread process, REMIX® 2 tyres retain the original tread patterns and compounds, ensuring continuity in performance.
Cost Savings and Environmental Benefits
The REMIX® 2 range significantly reduces operating costs for fleet managers. Retreaded tyres cost approximately 60% of the price of a new tyre while offering similar mileage. Two premium retreads achieve a 33% improvement in cost per kilometre.
Beyond cost efficiency, Michelin’s multi-cycle tyre model supports sustainability by reducing raw material consumption and CO₂ emissions. Each retread saves 50 kg of raw materials, with only 20 kilograms of new materials added, representing a 70% reduction compared to manufacturing a new tyre. Retreading six tyres on a three-axle trailer prevents approximately 300 kg of waste while reducing the number of tyres requiring disposal. Furthermore, each retreaded tyre saves up to 115 kilograms of CO₂, meaning that retreading 100 tyres can prevent over six tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Michelin’s Vision for a Sustainable Future
Paul de Lajudie, Michelin Group Truck Tyre Retread Director, emphasised the importance of the REMIX® 2 range in addressing current challenges for fleet managers. “With REMIX® 2, Michelin provides a new solution to the challenges facing fleet operators. The addition of a second premium retread reduces operating costs while offering performance equivalent to that of new tyres. This demonstrates the exceptional endurance of our casings and the constant improvement in Michelin’s product performance, driven by advanced technologies such as Infinicoil. By reinforcing our multi-cycle tyre model, Michelin is paving the way for a sustainable, circular economy.”
Through this expansion, Michelin continues strengthening its position as a leader in sustainable mobility, offering fleet operators an efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible tyre management solution.
